Full uPVC Guttering Renewal — Wickford

Water was spilling over the front gutter every time it rained heavily, running down the render and soaking the brickwork above the bay. The original gutter had cracked at two joints and the run had sagged in the middle, so water pooled instead of draining to the downpipe.

Full guttering renewal along the front roofline of a Wickford property. Deep-flow gutter was specified rather than standard half-round because this elevation collects run-off from a large tiled slope — the extra capacity stops it overtopping in sudden summer storms, which is when most overflow damage happens locally. The old cracked gutter was removed, brackets re-set to a correct and consistent fall, and the new run flood-tested before we left. Renewing guttering at this stage prevents the far more expensive problems that follow persistent overflow: damp penetration, blown render, and rotten fascia and soffit timbers.

• Removed the old cracked gutter and half-round brackets from the front elevation
• Checked the fascia board and timber behind for rot before fixing anything new
• Set a string line and re-set brackets at 800mm centres with a consistent fall to the downpipe
• Installed 112mm deep-flow uPVC gutter with sealed union joints to handle heavy Essex downpours
• Renewed the downpipe and shoe, discharging cleanly into the existing gully
• Flood-tested the whole run with a hose and checked every joint for drips
