We mechanically ground out the defective joints, then cleaned and prepared the masonry before repointing with weather-resistant mortar. The damaged flaunching at the top was removed and renewed around the pots, with the new flaunching shaped for runoff. The chimney was repointed and its damaged top mortar renewed, with joint repairs and new flaunching formed around the pots.
